In 1963, Shima began selling Nachi bearings. During the
bicycle boom in 1970, the company used chartered Jumbo
Jets to import Izumi roller chain and Futaba bicycle parts.
In 1973, they became the exclusive distributor of Kanebo
PVA stones for the printing industry.
Continuing to expand, Shima
American began importing and marketing The
Sammy sport towels and The Absorber shammy for
automobiles for Kanebo, Ltd., in 1980. In 1999, the
Cool N' Dry PVA towels were introduced to many
new markets including golfing and
pet care.
Again in 1980, an arrangement
was made with Perigot of Paris,
making Shima American the
exclusive importer of depilatory
waxes for the beauty industry.
Kanebo PVA brush rollers and abrasives were introduced in
1982 to the semi-conductor and hard disk industries. In
2001, Shima entered a strategic alliance with Merocel
offering the premium UltraPure PVATM brush rollers for
critical cleaning in these high technology applications.
In 1996, Shima American developed Micro-Check®
X-Y-ZTM software for Windows platform. In 2001, the
new robotic, 3D Laser-MicTM System using proprietary
software with the latest PC notebook was introduced. Shima has over thirty years of experience in the printing, converting and graphic arts industries and is a leader in their product and application areas.
New USA corporate headquarters were opened in
Glendale Heights, Illinois in 1998.
Shima American's USA expansion to the heart of the Silicon Valley in San
Jose, California leads the industry with a world class facility offering laboratory analysis, polymer conversions, Class 1000 and Class 100 clean rooms for high technology customers. The facility distributes technology products including UltraPure PVATM brush rollers and a comprehensive clean sponge product line. Today, products from around the world are offered to numerous markets in North, Central and South America.
